BBB - Bald! Bands! Breasts!

About 4 years ago when I arrived home from Australia my brother approached me with an idea. He wanted to host a massive party in the back yard with bands. Our barn had fallen over the year before and he wanted to have a massive fire in the foundation of the barn. I'd had some experience hosting large parties in the past so I offered him some advice. We charged everyone $10 to get in and the event was a massive success. Especially for my brother's pockets. As the years went on, we kept having the BBB (Barn Burning Bash). After the 3rd year, however, we decided to call it quits. Then, my mom passed away. We decided to have another party, in her honour, and give all the proceeds to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. We renamed the event the BBB Bald! Bands! Breasts! and got people to raise money to shave their heads (my brother and myself included) and had other competitions throughout the day. The BBB4 raised about $8300 for breast cancer awareness/research and the BBB5 (this year) is looking to have raised about $9100. These pictures are from the last 4 years events (BBB2-5)

Portraits - Self Portraits

Sometimes I feel like doing portraits... but there isn't always someone around to be my subject when the mood strikes. Thankfully I'm somewhat comfortable infront of the camera and have mastered the art of self portraiture, usually at an arms length. Often it's a result of "I'm bored - how about I put some makeup on and take pictures of myself". Regardless, it's a great way to learn angles and see how the light affects the face.

Portraits - Kids

Kids are awesome. They're goofy and they tell you hilarious stories. And they don't mind being photographed. That's probably the best part.

London, Ontario

I moved to London, Ontario at the end of the summer in 2008. I transfered my jobs and moved in with my then-boyfriend's friend. Over the last couple years in the city I've grown to know the good parts and bad parts. One day, I borrowed the Canon 10-22 lens and I took a stroll through one of the less-pretty parts of the city. Afterwards, since I don't own a Holga but wish I did, I played with the photos in photoshop...

Weddings - Ashley's Bridal Shower

I have to admit, when I was asked to take pictures a bridal shower, I wasn't really sure what exactly I was supposed to do. However, it turned out to be a lot of fun! I'm not really much for showers but to be on the camera side of things and not forced to partake in the games was a nice change. I was pretty much there to be the paparazzi. The theme of the shower was an English Tea Party and all the women came wearing hats (except me - no one told me too!) The food was delightful, and the games were amusing to watch. I would definitely do something like this again!!

Weddings - Jon and Lindsay

While not the official photographer by any stretch, I got a few nice shots at my friends Jon and Lindsay's wedding in July 2009. The wedding was in Kincardine, right on the water and the reception was held in the pavillion right beside the water as well. Incredibly, the wedding coincided with some pretty awesome fireworks being set off by the Bruce County power people (I think...) and we were all able to watch on the beach. One of my favourite parts was the swing band that Jon and Lindsay got for the reception - I love swing music and it was so fun to dance too!
